Who is Fanny?

Fanny Sura was born and raised in Sweden. She has over 20 years of experience in teaching dance for all ages. At a very young age she decided to dedicate her life to dance and education. As a teenager she started to work as an assistant to a dance teacher and later taught her own classes all through High School. In 2010, she graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Dance Pedagogy with specialization in Modern Dance from the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm.

During her time at the University she had an amazing opportunity to study as an exchange student at Escola Superior de Danca in Lisbon, Portugal. She did performances with choreographer Teresa Ranieri and works by Jose Grave, among others.

After graduation, Fanny moved to New York City to explore dance outside Europe. She came as a student and took professional dance classes at Dance New Amsterdam. She holds a certificate in choreography from the same school.

Fanny has worked with several choreographers in New York City. She was a company member of The Equus Project / OnSite NYC with choreographer and artistic director JoAnna Mendl Shaw. This is a unique dance company that does site-specific work with and without horses. With this company she was part of a performance piece, “Hastdans pa Hovdala”, with 3 other dancers, 6 artists with autism and 4 horses in Sweden. This project was made into a documentary by David Fishel presented at the Dance on Camera Film Festival at Lincoln Center, NYC.

When she moved to America, she was introduced to Mind Body Dancer Yoga by Tara Marie Perri. She had taken yoga classes of different styles before but it wasn’t until she took these classes in NYC that she came to be more curious about it. Fanny is currently studying to become a certified Yoga Teacher.
